State Info
Virginia is a highly populated state despite its large number of forests. This means that their demand for health care professionals is also high. Because the medical industry always stays strong regardless of fluctuations in the economy, it is a good field of work to become involved in if you are able. The best way to get started in the medical industry is by qualifying as an LPN nurse. There are a vast number of schools in Virginia where this is possible. Once you are an LPN you will also be able to upgrade your qualification to that of an RN or even get your BSN degree. He options are many and varied.
Licensing Requirements
The first step to being licensed as an LPN is enrolling in an accredited LPN course. In order to do this you will:
- Need to be older than 18
- Need to have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification
- Need to pass a background check
Once you have enrolled in the program you will then have to complete the theoretical and clinical sides of the course over a period of about 1 or 2 years. Then you will have to write the NCLEX-PN exam. On completion of the exam you will be licensed to practice as an LPN.
Exam Fee
In order to write the examination you will need to pay an amount of money to the company that administers the exam. This company is called Pearson Vue and the amount of money that you will have to pay is $200. To apply for licensure you will also have to pay an amount of money to the Virginia Board of Nursing. This amount of money is $170. You will then also have to renew your license once every two years at a cost of $120.
Salaries
Program | Hourly Rate | Annual Rate |
LPN | $15.66 | $31990 |
RN | $30.26 | $62935 |
BSN | $30 | $63,876 |
