State Info:
The economy fluctuates, but one of the few industries that are not affected by this is the medical industry. In densely populated Pennsylvania there are many opportunities in terms of jobs and career advancement for people working in the medical sector. A highly populated region means that more health care professionals are required to meet their needs.
So, in short, the health care industry is a good one to become involved in. And the best way to get started in the health care industry is by qualifying as an LPN. There are many schools in Pennsylvania where it is possible to receive an LPN qualification. These schools are of very good quality and you will be fully prepared for a career as an LPN once you have finished these programs. Once you are an LPN you will also have the opportunity of advancing even further through further education.
Licensing Requirements
The first step to being licensed as an LPN is enrolling in an accredited LPN course. In order to do this you will:
- Need to be older than 17
- Need to have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification
- Need to pass a background check
- Need to have achieved the required grade on the prerequisite courses that are specified by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing
Once you have enrolled in the program you will then have to complete the theoretical and clinical sides of the course over a period of about 1 or 2 years. Then you will have to write the NCLEX-PN exam. On completion of the exam you will be licensed to practice as an LPN.
Exam Fee
In order to write the examination you will need to pay an amount of money to the company that administers the exam. This company is called Pearson Vue and the amount of money that you will have to pay is $200. To apply for licensure you will also have to pay an amount of money to the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing. This amount of money is $35. You will then also have to renew your license once every two years at a cost of $60 and with proof of 30 hours of continuous training.
Salaries
As you will be able to study further and become an RN or BSN nurse once you have completed your LPN qualification, you may find it interesting to take a look at the average LPN salaries that you can expect to earn for each position in the state of Pennsylvania.
Program | Hourly Rate | Annual Rate |
LPN | $16.91 | $34950 |
RN | $30.06 | $62538 |
BSN | $30 | $63,876 |
Financial Aid Available
There are many sources of financial aid for students looking for help with their LPN studies in Pennsylvania. The Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency is just one example. In addition to this there are many other government and privately funded sources of financial aid, and you can even apply to the school that you are hoping to study at for help. On top of that there are a number o scholarships and grants that are available and many reasonable loan options. If you are already working in the health care sector than your employer may be willing to help you fund your studies in order to have another LPN on their staff. The options are many and varied and it is well worth your while to investigate each one carefully.
List of Schools
You will be glad to know that in Pennsylvania there are a large number of different schools to choose from that offer an LPN qualification. Make sure that you consider all of your options carefully. Here is a list of the schools that you can choose from:
