State Info:
In Oklahoma, the state of severe and random temperatures, there are a lot of opportunities available for people who want to qualify as LPN nurses. For one thing the medical industry is on the increase in this region. This is despite the fact that the economy is not currently in a good state, and despite the fact that many other industries are on the decrease. For another thing there are plenty of schools in Oklahoma where you will be able to study for an LPN program.
Becoming an LPN in Oklahoma means that you will have job security and a secure peace of mind about your future. You will also have a number of opportunities for advancement. With an LPN qualification you will be able to study further and become an RN or BSN nurse, and this will mean more money, more respect, and greater career advancement.
Licensing Requirements
The first step to being licensed as an LPN is enrolling in an accredited LPN course. In order to do this you will:
- Need to be older than 18
- Need to have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification
- Need to have passed the prerequisite courses that are required in the state of Oklahoma
- Need to pass a background check
- Need to pass a health check
Once you have enrolled in the program you will then have to complete the theoretical and clinical sides of the course over a period of about 1 or 2 years. Then you will have to write the NCLEX-PN exam. On completion of the exam you will be licensed to practice as an LPN.
Exam Fee
In order to write the examination you will need to pay an amount of money to the company that administers the exam. This company is called Pearson Vue and the amount of money that you will have to pay is $200. To apply for licensure you will also have to pay an amount of money to the Oklahoma Board of Nursing. This amount of money is $85. You will then also have to renew your license once every two years at a cost of $75 and with proof of 24 hours of continuous training.
Salaries
Because you will have the opportunity to upgrade your LPN qualification to an RN or even a BSN qualification it is very interesting to compare the salary that you will be eligible for at each level. The below table represents the average LPN salaries earned by LPNs, RNs and BSNs in Oklahoma.
Program | Hourly Rate | Annual Rate |
LPN | $13.67 | $27880 |
RN | $25.41 | $52850 |
BSN | $30 | $63,876 |
Financial Aid Available
In the state of Oklahoma there are many ways to fund your LPN studies. If you are in a financially bad spot, never fear. There is a way to get through your studies!
The state often offers loan repayment incentives in order to encourage more people to study for their LPN qualification and in order to get people to work in the undeserved areas of the state. The first step to getting financial aid in this way is looking into the various programs that the state offers. Make sure you have a good understanding of what the requirements are. Do not bother with programs that you do not qualify for as you will be wasting valuable time that you could be spending looking at other options.
There are also other programs that the state offers. For example The Nursing Student Assistance Program is available to nurses studying at all levels. In order to qualify for The Nursing Student Assistance Program you must be willing to work in rural areas. This is a repayment for the loan that you are given for your studies. Before applying for and committing to the program you need to be absolutely certain that you are someone who has the right attitude for working in a rural area. It should also be what you want to do, so you need to have the right motivation.
Some hospitals are understaffed and consequently they offer loan repayments or other monetary incentives to encourage nurses to work for them. This is a great way to get a job, and shows you just how high the demand for LPNs in Oklahoma is. When looking for a job once you have finished studying this may be the best route for you to take.
List of Schools
There are many schools to choose from in Oklahoma where you can study your LPN qualification. Make sure that you consider the schools carefully in order to make a carefully informed choice. Here is a list of the schools with their contact details.
