State Info:
There are many LPN jobs available in Michigan. This is because Michigan is one of the most populous states, which means that there are a large number of people who require professional health care. As a result, the health care industry is booming in this state. While other industries decline the health care industry remains strong because there will always be a demand.
So, basically, if you are hoping to get involved with the health care industry in Michigan, this is one of the best choices you could make. And one of the best ways to get your foot in the door is to qualify as an LPN. Once you are qualified as an LPN you can enjoy job security and peace of mind and you will be able to easily upgrade your qualification to an RN or even get a BSN. In Michigan there are several different schools that you can choose from when it comes to doing your LPN qualification.
Licensing Requirements
In order to become licensed as an LPN you will have to enroll in a program that is accredited by the Michigan Board of Nursing. In order to enter a program like this you must be 18 years old, you must have a high school diploma, and you must be able to pass both a background check and a health assessment easily.
Then you will be required to complete your program, which can be done either online or offline in Michigan. Remember that you will have to complete a certain amount of LPN clinical practice which cannot be done online. The program will take 1 to 2 years for you to complete.
Once you have completed the LPN program that you enrolled in you will then have to pass the NCLEX-PN examination. This is a very important examination that you will have to be properly prepared for. Once you have passed the exam you will be a licensed LPN.
Exam Fee
In order to write the NCLEX-PN examination you will have to pay a fee. This fee must be paid to Pearson Vue, the company that administers the LPN exam in Michigan. Eligibility to write the exam costs you $200.
Salaries
Program | Hourly Rate | Annual Rate |
LPN | $17.11 | $37100 |
RN | $30.91 | $64280 |
BSN | $30 | $63,876 |
The above is just a rough estimate. In specific industries you could earn the following:
- Surgical and medical hospitals (general ones): $38080
- Nursing care facilities: $40580
- Physician’s offices: $35020
- Home care facilities: $39510
- Employment services: $44690
Financial Aid Available
There are several financial aid options available for students who wish to get their LPN qualification in Michigan but who do not have the financial means to do so. There are in fact several financial aid options that re specific to Michigan. They are:
The Michigan Nursing Scholarship
A scholarship is a portion of money that you are given in order to pay for your studies that you will not be required to pay back. The Michigan Nursing Scholarship in particular is funded by the state, but the administration of the scholarship is handled by individual schools. Because any college of nursing is eligible to apply for the rights to administer this scholarship, it is well within your interests to inquire at your school about whether or not this scholarship is available to you. Remember that scholarships are often based on a rewards basis, so you may need to be a top academic performer in order to qualify for this scholarship. Also you will be required to work for a specified period of time (in the case of The Michigan Nursing Scholarship you will have to work one year for every year of study funded by eh scholarship) in a healthcare facility that will be designated by the State of Michigan. However this means that you will not have to look for a job once you have finished studying and you will get valuable experience that will help you through the rest of your career.
The Michigan State Loan Repayment Program
If you have gone the route of getting a loan for your studies, then you may want to consider The Michigan State Loan Repayment Program when it comes time to start thinking about repaying that loan. The Michigan State Loan Repayment Program will deal with a portion of your loan so that you don’t have to. In return you will be required to work in a state designated healthcare facility for a set period of time, but again this will give you valuable experience that will help you advance in your career.

Tips for choosing a school
Now that you are aware of what schools are available to you, you have to choose from among the options. This may not be easy, but if you use the following as a guideline, you should be able to reach a sensible conclusion:
- Location of the school: This may be the first thing that you consider, and well it should be. It makes no sense to choose a school which is too far away from where you live. Find one that is close and convenient and that you will not have to travel too far to get to. This consideration may also help you top keep your transport costs down.
- Tuition fees: Obviously the cost of the various courses offered by the various schools needs to play a part in your decision. Remember that cheaper does not always mean good value for money and that you may not get the best quality form an expensive school. So while this should be a consideration, it should definitely not be your only consideration.
- Percentage of NCLEX-PN passed candidate from the school in previous years: Make sure that you are able to find out how many past student successfully got through the exam. If the percentage is low then it may be an indication that the school in question is no adequately preparing its students for the examination. If this is the case, then try o avoid that school if possible. If you still have to attend the school for various reasons, try and supplement your studies in some way.
- Length of the program: Be aware of how much time you are willing and able to devote to your LPN studies. If you know this before you start looking at schools it will make it easier to choose. Try and find a school where the time needed and the length of the course matches up with your abilities.
- Course ware: Different courses will differ subtly in terms of what the course work will offer. In this case it is important to choose a school where the course work will adequately prepare you for the examination.
- Clinical facilities and exposure: if possible you should examine the clinical facilities that you will be working in ahead of time in order to see what quality you will be working with. Remember hat the course must include clinical exposure if you want to become licensed as an LPN.
- Reputation of the college: make sure that the college you end up enrolling at has a good reputation in the field of nursing as well as in the academic arena.
- Financial aids: Many schools offer financial aid to their students. If you need financial aid then you may have to choose from those schools that will be able to help you fund your studies.
