State Info:
Indiana is one of the states with the highest population and this means that there are plenty of opportunities for an LPN nurse living in Indiana. There are several reasons for this.
For one a big population means that there will need to be more health care professionals to take care of all the people living there. An increasing population also indicates an increase in the life expectancy rate which means that there will be plenty of jobs available for LPN nurses who are hoping to work in the area of geriatrics.
As compared to other industries, the health care industry is on the increase, this means that it is a good field of work to get involved with for future security. There are also a lot of advancement options available to people who have an LPN qualification. For example you will be able to study further and increase your employment opportunities even further.
Licensing Requirements
In order to become licensed as an LPN in the state of Indiana you will have to:
- Be older than 18 years of age
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent qualification
- Have a clear criminal background
- Have a clean bill of health
- Graduate from an LPN program that is certified and accredited by the Indiana State Board of Nursing (this is very important as you will never be able to practice as an LPN in Indiana if the school where you did you qualification is not certified)
- Pass the NCLEX-PN exam in your state
Exam Fee
There are of course various fees that you will have to pay, both to write the LPN examination and to become properly licensed. In order to be allowed to write the exam you will have to pay $200 to the company who is in charge of administering the exam. This company’s name is Pearson Vue. On top of that you will have to pay $50 to the Indiana State Board of Nursing to become certified and you will also be required to renew your LPN license every two years. There will be a renewal fee of $50 payable once every two years in order to keep your license up to date and active.
Salaries
Program | Hourly Rate | Annual Rate |
LPN | $15.89 | $33020 |
RN | $27.99 | $58229 |
BSN | $30 | $63,876 |
Financial Aid Available
In the state of Indiana there is no reason to give up on your dreams of becoming an LPN> many people give up on this idea altogether due to financial constraints. However, there are plenty of aid schemes offered by the State of Indiana as well as the universities and schools within that state that exist primarily to help you reach all of your educational aim in life.
State and federal financial aid
If you want to study in the state of Indiana than you have the opportunity to apply for state or federal aid in order to complete your qualification. There are many avenues of inquiry that you could pursue on this regard, but a good place to start is with FAFSA. FAFSA will be able to provide you with a list of financial aid programs that you are eligible for. Make sure that you consider all of the options, and remember that there are many opportunities out there for people who are willing to take the time and effort needed to look for them.
Veteran’s benefits
If you are a veteran or a family member of a veteran than you may qualify for financial aid to complete your LPN studies in the state of Indiana. If you fall into this category it is well worth your while to explore the different options that you may have. Veteran’s benefits are usually offered at a federal or state level, but it is well worth your while pursuing private sources of financial aid as well.
Scholarships and Grants
A financially viable option that may be open to you is perhaps looking into getting a scholarship or a grant. A scholarship is an amount of money that is given to you to pay for your studies that you will not have to pay back. This is great and may sound too good to be true, but remember that there are quite strict qualifications that you will need to have in order to get a scholarship. Firstly scholarships are often only given to people who are in financial difficulties. However in many cases they are rewards given regardless of your financial status. However, in order to receive this reward you will have to be a top achiever in the academic filed. This is not easily achievable so for you a scholarship may not be a realistic option. A grant is also an amount of money that is given to you in order for you to pay for your studies. For a grant however you will not have to be a top achiever. You will merely need to prove that you need the money because you have no other way to pay for your studies. Grants are therefore more achievable, but they can’t be given to everyone.
Student loans
If you are unable to get either a scholarship or a grant for your LPN studies in Indiana, then you may have to consider taking out a student loan from a bank or another organization. Federal loans have great interest rates, but there are stringent criteria that you will have to meet in order to qualify for the loan. Private loans are easier to get, but they come with much higher interest rates. A loan may also be viable if you are only able to get a scholarship or grant that covers part of your fees. Remember that although you often only have to start paying the loan back after you have finished studying, your loan may accrue interest over this time, which means you will have to pay quite a lot of money back. In this case it is a good idea to look into the various loan-forgiveness schemes offered in the state of Indiana.
