State Info:
Georgia is one of the largest states in the USA and offers a wide range of options for student who are hoping to study for their LPN qualification.
For one thing there are a wide range of schools for students to choose form in order to get their qualification, but on top of that the state of Georgia offers a great many incentives to students who wish to study further and improve their education.
In Georgia anyone can obtain their dream of becoming an LPN because, with the numerous financial aid schemes that are available in this state, students no longer need to be held back by financial constraints. Like many other states there has been a marked increase in the demand for health care professionals in Georgia. Becoming an LPN in this state means that you will have a secure job that will always be there. The health care profession will always need to have nurses, and increasing populations, a rise in the average life expectancy across the country, and advances in technology mean that skilled nurses are in very high demand. The best way to get your foot in the door of the health care profession is to study you LPN qualification. You will then be able to improve your career by doing an LPN to RN program that will provide you with even more job opportunities.
Licensing Requirements
The first step in becoming licensed as an LPN in the state of Georgia is to successfully enroll in an LPN program. However, you will need to hold a high school certificate or GED in order to achieve this first basic step. Something that is absolutely essential is that this program be approved and accredited by the Georgia state board of nursing. You will not be able to work as an LPN unless your qualification is from an approved program. This is a very important thing to remember to check before enrolling as you do not want to have wasted your time and money on a program that will get you nowhere. In order to actually do well in the program once you have enrolled in it you will need to be able to devote about 700 hours of study in the course of about 12 to 18 months to your clinical and theory training. So it is important that you analyze your time resources and see whether or not you actually have enough time to do everything that you would like to do. You can also enroll in a program outside the state of Georgia, but the nursing board must confirm that the curriculum of the program is sufficient. Once you have completed the program you will have to pass the NCLEX-PN examination in order to take your final steps towards being licensed.
Exam Fee
As mentioned previously you will have to write the NCLEX-PN in order to be an LPN. The fee that you will have to pay for this is $200 that goes directly to Pearson Vue, the company who organizes and runs the exam.
There are other fees you will have to pay as well. To be licensed required you to pay $40 to the State Board of Nursing. You will also have to renew your license once every two years for a fee of $60.
Salaries
Program | Hourly Rate | Annual Rate |
LPN | $14.91 | $24940 |
RN | $29.37 | $61081 |
BSN | $30 | $63,876 |
Financial Aid Available
There are many options available when it comes to funding your studies in Georgia. Start off by applying at FAFSA and seeing what they have to say. Once you have applied at FAFSA you will be given information and advice on the following:
- Grants: A grant is one of the best ways to fund your education and your studies as it constitutes an amount of money to put towards you studies that you will never have to repay. Grants can be difficult to get however as they are needs based and not everyone will meet the stringent requirements. However, if FAFSA sends you information about a grant you are eligible for, apply immediately.
- Loans: FAFSA will also send information regarding any loans that you are eligible for. As loans have to be repaid they should take second place on your priority list to the grants that you are told about.
- LPN Scholarships: Like grants scholarships do not need to be repaid, which also makes them a great option to consider when thinking of ways in which to fund your LPN studies. The nice thing about a scholarship is that your academic record plays a big part in whether or not you are likely to receive it.
- Work-study programs: With a work-study program you will be able to work on the campus of the school where you will be studying thereby generating income to repay a full or partial loan.
- Loan-forgiveness programs: Once you have finished studying and the time comes when you will have to start repaying your loan, you may want to consider one of the many loan-forgiveness programs available in Georgia as these programs will deal with a portion of our loan in exchange for you working for them for a set period of time.
