The National League for Nursing, or NLN as it is sometimes called, is a professional organization that exists to regulate the profession of nursing and provide its members with the resources and opportunities that they need to provide the best service possible.
Membership
There are a number of extremely compelling benefits involved in being a member of the National League for Nursing. The membership benefits that you qualify will, however, depend on your membership category.
Individual Membership
The first membership category is individual membership. There three types of individual membership options open to you. The first type is Full Individual Membership, which is “open to all individuals, faculty, nurses, administrators, and others interested in excellence in nursing education”. As a full individual member you will have the choice of paying $115 for one year of membership, or $210 for two years of membership (with a saving of $20). The second is Graduate Student Membership, which is “open to individuals currently enrolled in post-baccalaureate work; verification of student status is required”. For this type of membership you need to pay $75 a year. There is no ‘two year’ payment option as this membership category depends on your student status. The third, and last, individual membership type is Retired Membership, “open to individuals who are no longer employed but want to stay connected to nursing education”. At this level of membership you have the option of paying $75 for one year of membership, or $130 for two years of membership, with a saving of $20. Because membership in the NLN is for a 12-month period, you will be billed according to the anniversary date of your first payment.

Schools Of Nursing (Education Agency Member)
In addition to individual membership you can also join the NLN as an educational institute. IN order to do this you must meet the following requirements, as per the guidelines on the National League for Nursing’s website:
- “Schools of nursing with multiple locations that are accredited individually are each considered a separate education agency for NLN membership.
- Prelicensure programs must have approval by the state agency that has legal authority for educational programs in nursing.
- Institutions that are in the process of developing a nursing program may request provisional membership by contacting the director of membership, Tish Hess, at 212-812-0374”.
The fee structure for educational institute members is far more complex than that for individual members. If your institute is a single campus or site school the membership fees are based on the total number of students who graduated from the combined nursing education programs located on one campus the previous year. If between 0 and 50 individuals graduated the fee that you will be required to pay is $1,075 a year. If between 51 and 100 students graduated the fee is $1,325, and if 101 or more students graduated the fee is $1,575. There is a different fee structure for schools with multiple campuses or sites. The fees for the main campus of these schools will be $1,575 a year, while each additional campus is charged a fee of $250 per campus.
Membership in the NLN is for a 12-month period and is billed by the calendar year (January to December) for educational institute members. Membership fees are prorated according to join date. For schools with multiple campuses, only the main campus fee is pro-rated.
The benefits of being an education agency member are as follows:
