LPN Programs in Missouri

State Info:

Missouri is a fairly densely populated state, which means that there are plenty of opportunities for people working in the health care industry. The bigger The population the more health care workers are required to serve that population.

There are many other industries which seem to almost be failing at present, but the health care industry remains strong. This means that one of your best career moves may be to get into the health care industry. The best way to do this is to become qualified as an LPN. This does not take long, and it will open up many other windows of opportunity. Once you are an LPN. For example, you will then be able to become an RN or get your BSN. You will be able to move on to management positions and other jobs that you had never even dreamed about, Missouri is a good state to do this as there are many LPN schools for you to choose form in order to successfully complete your LPN qualification. Even if you are in a financially tight spot there are many options open to you in the form of financial aid.

Licensing Requirements

The first step to being licensed as an LPN is enrolling in an accredited LPN course. In order to do this you will:

  • Need to be older than 18
  • Need to have a high school diploma or an equivalent qualification
  • Need to be able to pass the basic skills test that will be administered to you
  • Need to pass a background check
  • Need to pass a health check

Once you have enrolled in the program you will then have to complete the theoretical and clinical sides of the course over a period of about 1 or 2 years. Then you will have to write the NCLEX-PN exam. On completion of the exam you will be licensed to practice as an LPN.

Exam Fee

To write the exam you will have to pay the company who administers the exam. This company is called Pearson Vue and the fee for the exam is $200. To apply for the exam you will also have to pay $41 to the Missouri Board of Nursing, making a total of $241 to be paid for your exam. Once you are licensed you will have to renew your license once every two years at a fee of $52.

Salaries

Here is a comparison of the salaries you can earn in different nursing positions:

Program Hourly
Rate
Annual Rate
LPN $14.58 $30280
RN $27.75 $57730
BSN $30 $63,876

Financial Aid Available

There are a number of options available to students who wish to study further for their LPN qualification, but who feel that they are restricted in this regard by not having the money necessary to do this. In the state of Missouri, however, there are many options available for nurses who are hoping to get their LPN qualification. Grants and scholarships are common and can be applied for from both federal and private sources. Many LPN nursing schools also provide scholarships and grant to some of their students in order to encourage more people to study for their LP qualification. Grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid so they are financially the best option. However they are not always easy to get as they are usually needs based (especially in the case of grants), or achievements based (especially in the case of scholarships). This means that you may have to get a loan to cover all or part of your costs. Remember that federal loans come at better interest rates but are generally harder to get, while private loans are generally easier to get, but have high interest rates. There are a number of loan forgiveness programs for you to consider when it comes time to repay your loan where a portion of your loan will be dealt with for you in return for which you will work in a state designated healthcare facility for a set period of time. Your current employer, if you are already employed in a healthcare institute, may be willing to provide you with the financial aid that you need. If you look hard and closely enough you will find that there are a wide range of options that are open to you when it comes to funding your LPN studies.
